Hello everyone, this series is intended for everyone who doesn’t know how to use WordPress, like me! Today we will talk about WordPress Themes.
A theme is the overall layout of the page, I guess. It is what makes your site look the way it does.
In WordPress, you can install or manage a theme, which is what we will be talking about here.
There’s one way I know how to install a theme on WordPress. First you need to get a theme, I got mine from StudioPress, but you can get it from somewhere else. There are thousands of themes available around the Internet. So with the theme, you might get a framework (also called a mother theme), mine is called Genesis Framework, and you need this in order for your theme to work, and you also get the theme itself (called a child theme).
So to install the theme, go to the appearance tab in WordPress, and click on “themes”. After that, you should see a page with “manage themes”, and “install themes” on top, if you want to choose a pre-installed theme, if there are any (not sure), just below the theme, there are four options, “activate”, “live preview”, “details” and “delete”, so to select the theme, just click “activate”, and that should be it.
But if you have a theme that you downloaded, it should be in a ZIP file, and a framework like Genesis. Simply click the “Install themes” on top of the page, and you should see a search box, and on top of that, you should see “search”, “upload”, “featured”, “newest” and “recently uploaded”. Click “upload”, and click “choose file”. A dialog box should appear, and now you can choose the file of your framework first. After it’s installed, install the theme and activate it. After that you’re done.
I hope this helped you with your own site, if not, then feel free to ask questions in the comments. Even if you understood it, ask questions, and I’ll try to answer them.
And if you have any suggestions about future N00b’s guides, post them in the comments, and I’ll try to learn them, and do a guide.
